RED SOX SET TO ANNOUNCE FREE AGENT SIGNINGS
by RedSoxcast - posted Monday, December 29th, 2008
It is being reported today that the Red Sox have reached agreement on one year contracts with both former Dodger pitcher Brad Penney and San Diego Padre catcher Josh Bard.
Penney had an injury prone season which left him with a ERA over 6.00 as he struggled with shoulder problems. However he won 16 games in both 2007 and 2006 and was the starting pitcher for the National League all star team in 2007. He will be counted on to be the teams fourth starter. This deal is pending Penney passing a physical examination.
Bard is being given a one year non gauranteed contract. Could this possibly mean that the Red Sox are prepared to say goodbye to Jason Veritek as they continue to look for another catcher to either platoon with or be ahead of Bard?
We love Jason Veritek however he has over valued himself and therefore it may be time for the Sox to move on without their Captain.
RED SOX LOOSE OUT ON TEIXEIRA OR DID THEY???

Last night the Yankees announced that they had agreed to terms with Mark Teixeira on an 8 year $180 million dollar contract sending shock waves through Red Sox nation.
While the general consensus seems to be that the Red Sox were out menuvered by the Yankees, I find this hard to believe. I thought from day one that it made sense for the Yankees to sign Teixeira away from the Red Sox and there is no way that Theo and Company did not think the same way. Therefore to say that the Sox simply were un willing to increase their $170 Million dollar offer to $180 Million to get the deal done simply does not make any sense. The Red Sox had ample money available to spend after loosing Manny so the incremental difference was meaningless and they had to know that the Yankees would not mind paying the difference.
Therefore, I have to believe that the Sox knew what they were doing and that once again they were simply driving up the cost for the Yankees to acquire a player that they were most certainly going to get anyways in the long run.
Maybe Theo & company like it when the Yankees tie their hands with long term high priced contracts. What it does is hurt their farm system as they loose first round draft picks for singing CC, Burnett and Teixeira and who knows how certain players will respond to playing under the spotlight in New York. It certainly ties their hands somewhat as there are only a few major league teams that could ever afford to trade with the Yankees if they ever felt the need to move one or more of these players.
I think we are finally seeing Theo’s ultimate vision come to play. He will make some trades and sign a few “cheap free agents” such as maybe Ben Sheets or Derek Lowe and will continue to develope from within. In the meantime, don’t be surprised to see the Yankees keep going by either signing Manny or Derek Lowe or both before their off season spending spree is over.
The Sox, Patriots and Celtics have all proven recently that at the end of the day, you win with team chemistry.
WHAT IS THE RED SOX NEXT MOVE???
by RedSoxcast - posted Sunday, December 21st, 2008
The Yankees have introduced their two major off season acquisitions to the publicmwith both CC Sabathia and AJ Burnett. Now that this has happened, you would think that the Red Sox would respond by making a major acquisition of their own.
While many people think that Mark Teixeira wants too much money just remember one thing. The Red Sox need to significantly upgrade the middle of their batting order. While they have a tremendous amount of young pitching prospects, they do not have the same kind of young talent coming up that can provide them with the punch that they need in the middle of the lineup. Therefore, if they want to get stronger and do not want to trade any of their young pitching prospects, then signing Teixeria is by far their best bet!
Stay tuned!
ITS GOOD TO BE DUSTIN PEDROIA!
by RedSoxcast - posted Thursday, December 4th, 2008
What an amazing story. You are 5 foot 7 inches tall (or less) and people are constantlly telling you that you are too small to play major league baseball.
You get drafted by the Red Sox. Supposedly you over achieve in the minors and quickly get the call to Boston for a look see. You never go back down. Now after two full seasons in the big leagues, you have already won a world series, been to the American League Championship Series, won the American League Rookie of the year award and the American League MVP award! What’s left after all that in just two years??
How about a Six year contract extension worth over $40 Million Dollars. What a story Duston Pedroia is and what a great ball player. I am excited that he will be a Red Sox for a long time to come!
RED SOX REPORTEDLY AGREE TO TERMS WITH JAPAN’S TAZAWA
by RedSoxcast - posted Friday, November 28th, 2008
It is being reported tonight that the Red Sox have agreed to terms with Japaneese pitching prospect Junichi Tazawa on a three year - $6 Million Dollar deal.
According to published reports, the Atlanta Braves, Texas Rangers and Seattle Mariners were also in the hunt for Tazawa but the fact that the Red Sox had previously signed Dice K seemed to be the overriding factor in their favor.
The right handed Tazawa is only 22 years old and was 10-1 during the 2008 season with a 1.02 ERA, striking out 95 in 88 1/3 innings. While he will be added to the teams 40 man roster, he is projected to start the season in Pawtucket.
Like when the Sox signed Dice K, it is hard to criticize your team for being willing to spend money to import potential talent. Let’s hope that Theo & Company have stolen another Japaneese winner for us.
Ben and I hope that everone has had a great Thanksgiving!
RED SOX TRADE COCO CRISP TO THE ROYALS
by RedSoxcast - posted Wednesday, November 19th, 2008
The Red Sox today announced that they have traded outfielder Coco Crisp to the Kansas City Royals for reliever Ramon Ramirez.
Ramirez is a young set up man with a power arm. He has an excellent strikeout to walk ratio and I would assume that this move paves the way for Justin Masterson to move from the bullpen back into the starting rotation.
It is sad to see Coco go as he has been such a great team player for the Red Sox and he was a major part of their world championship team. That being said, I am happy for him because he will now have the opportunity to once again be an everyday player. It seems like a good trade for both teams.
Best of luck Coco!
RED SOX LOWELL RECOVERING FROM SURGERY
by RedSoxcast - posted Sunday, November 16th, 2008
It is being reported that Mike Lowell is recovering nicely from his hip surgery and is off crutches.
Doctors are saying that his surgery was a success. They expect that he should have a full recovery in time for the 2009 baseball season and expect him to regain his full range of motion.
The Red Sox are a much better team with a healthy Mike Lowell anchoring the infield so here is to a speedy recovery!!!
RAYS PROVE TO BE TOO MUCH IN THE END AS SOX GO DOWN IN GAME 7
by RedSoxcast - posted Monday, October 20th, 2008
What a dissapointment! After coming back from a 3 games to 1 defecit, the Red Sox forced a game 7 in the ALCS and Red Sox Nation was convinced that we would leave Tampa with a win and be heading to another world series.
Unfortunately Tampa did not fold and their pitching proved to be too much for the Red Sox to handle as Matt Garza shut them down.
The Sox had plenty of chances to pull this game out however the likes of Jason Veritek, David Ortiz and JD Drew could not deliver with men on base when the season was on the line.
Thank you Red Sox for giving us another wonderful and exciting season!!
Red Sox show Heart of Champions!!
by RedSoxcast - posted Sunday, October 19th, 2008
For the third time since 2004, the Red Sox have come from at least a 3 games to 1 defecit in the American League Championship Series to force a game 7 after beating the Yankees in 2004 and then the Cleveland Indians last year.
Both times the Red Sox were able to pull off a victory in game 7 and hopefully tonight will be no exception. The Red Sox send John Lester to the hill to face the Rays and hopefully he will be back on his game after his last performance. He has been our true number ace this year and now is his chance to shine again.
Go Red Sox!!!!
Red Sox comeback from 7 run deficit to win game 5!!
by RedSoxcast - posted Friday, October 17th, 2008
What an amazing game last night!!Our Red Sox came from being down by seven runs in the bottom of the seventh to come back and win and force a game 6 in Tampa.
Is JD Drew our new Mr. October? Last night he won the game for us with a 2 run home run in the 7th to make the score 7-6 and then in the bottom of the ninth he hit a walk off ground run double to win the game!
It is about time Papi came through with a big home run (7th inning bomb) and hopefully he has a few more of those left in him. His home run was a good sign however he did strike out again in the Ninth.
Go Red Sox!!!!!!!
